This set of instrumental compositions was written to accompany Virginia Woolf’s Orlando. A fictional biography of the eponymous character, Orlando takes us from his boyhood in 1588 to her 36-year old adulthood in 1928 (the year of publication). As might be implied by the description, Orlando manages to age mere decades over the course of several hundred years, and to swap genders in the interim. The pieces I wrote generally correspond in style to the contemporary events, allowing me to do an analogous form of shapeshifting to Orlando herself. Also included as a bonus item is the Orlando Songbook, with sheet music for all the pieces.
